CANACONA: The second Sanjiv Prabhudesai Kaalotsav at ManoShobha Kalaghar will open with the English play ‘A Place With the Pigs’ in Canacona. The play will be staged at the Aangan of ManoShobha Kalaghar, Agas, Loliem, on Sunday, January 11 at 5.30 pm. The two-hour production is directed by noted Goan theatre personality Dnyanesh Moghe and features Daegal Godinho and Deeplakshmi Moghe.
Written by South African playwright Athol Fugard, the play is based on a true story. It follows Russian soldier Pavel Ivanovich, who deserts the battlefield during World War II and hides in a pigsty for 41 years to escape punishment. The story explores human dignity, the mental effects of war, and the search for acceptance in society, with touches of humour. The festival will be inaugurated by theatre and folk artist Anand Waghurmekar from Ponda Mahal.
