PANAJI: Author, commentator and former CEO of Procter & Gamble India, Gurcharan Das, will speak on ‘Have we learned the wrong lessons from history?’ in the upcoming ICG Public Lecture event at the International Centre Goa on January 24 at 6 pm. The author of two books, ‘The Difficulty of Being Good’ and ‘India Unbound’, Das is a graduate with honours from Harvard University. He will discuss the unemployment issue and why India failed to create an industrial revolution, though it is one of the world’s fastest-growing economies today. The lecture will highlight India’s trading past that made it one of the world’s richest countries and how this success was based on keeping its economy open. However, after independence, the nation closed its doors, wrongly believing that trade had impoverished the country. Das will focus on this mistaken lesson from history that has dogged the nation, preventing it from realising its potential.
