Mines Safety Week begins at Bicholim mine

BICHOLIM: The 42nd Annual Mines Safety Week 2025–26 was inaugurated at Block 1 of the Bicholim Mines on Monday under the aegis of the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), Goa Region, and the Mines Safety & Productivity Council (MSPC).

The week-long programme is being organised by Vedanta Sesa Goa Iron Ore Group to strengthen safety practices in mining operations.

Director of Mines Safety Ramesh Walikar attended as the chief guest, while Deputy Director of Mines Safety Deepak Chandramukhi was the guest of honour.

Senior officials from DGMS, MSPC and the mining sector were present.

Walikar said Mines Safety Week is an important platform to reinforce safe mining practices and prevent accidents. He said over 50 mines from Goa, Sindhudurg, Kolhapur and Ratnagiri are taking part this year.

Chandramukhi stressed the need for constant vigilance, timely risk management and strict compliance with safety norms.

A Safety Publicity and Propaganda Vehicle was flagged off to spread safety awareness. The programme concluded with a plantation drive.
