Former Chief Minister and current Margao MLA Digambar Kamattakes pride in completing full term in office but Margao has failed to getsimilar attention from its MLA.

Margao contributes over Rs 100 crore in tax revenue to thestate and is home to 51 goldsmiths, numerous traders, hotels and businesshouses. It has three large markets but the city is a cauldron of garbage, sewage and traffic congestion.

Traders recollect how the city was a hot spot for investmentand everybody wanted to own a shop, home or an establishment. But all this hastaken a toll on the city. The markets are dilapidated, illegal encroachmentsdot every pavement while haphazard electrical wiring runs across Gandhi market.Crime and gang wars are synonymous with Moti Dongor, which is consideredKamat’s stronghold.  Chaotic traffic andlack of parking space add to the city’s misery.

Kamat tries to take credit for the Ana Fonte garden, whichwas constructed when he was part of the BJP regime, and the latest RavindraBhavan.
