Officials raid quarry in Pissurlem, seize machinery worth Rs 3L

Responding to complaints of illegal operations at stone quarries in Pissurlem, Sattari Mamletdar Dashrath Gawas and a team of officials raided a laterite stone quarry in Kumarkhan in Pissurlem and seized machinery worth Rs 3 lakh.

Gawas and a team of officials, which included Sham Sawant from the Mines and Geology department, Ulo Mangeshkar, Talathi Ravindra Gawas and Valpoi PSI Karishma Parulekar seized the machinery and handed them over to the police.

When contacted, Gawas said he had filed a complaint with the Valpoi Police and sought action against those involved in the illegal activity.

Sattari-based activist, Hanumant Parab, who had complained about the illegal quarries in Pissurlem, has welcomed the action by officials and has demanded immediate closure of all illegal quarries on government land in these areas.

PERNEMPernem police used the festive season to team up with Santa to spread awareness on Covid-19 safety measures in Pernem taluka.Pernem Police Inspector Jivba Dalvi said a police staffer dressed up as Santa Claus and gifted chocolates, pamphlets and masks to people.“The aim of this drive was to create awareness among public regarding Covid-19 safety measures to be taken,” said PI Dalvi.
