The Mormugao Taluka Enforcement Squad conducted inspections near KTC Bus Stand in Vasco and recovered fines of Rs 1,800 from kiosks, fast food stalls, general stores & hardware shops for violations of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA).
The Squad, led by Mormugao Mamlatdar Dhiren Banaulikar and GOACAN Co-ordinator Roland Martins, included office staff Hanumant Mandrekar (Talathi), Vithu Kharat (CI), Dayanand Thakkar (Sanitary Inspector UHC) and a police team.
The Squad found the violation of Section 4 of COTPA in kiosks which did not have licenses displayed from the Directorate of Food & Drug Administration (DFDA) and the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC). The squad has decided to focus on the Tobacco Free Educational Institutions (ToFEI) guidelines for the academic year 2021-22 for Mormugao Taluka after conducting the necessary training for the teachers through the South Goa District Level Coordination Committee for Tobacco Control under the Chairmanship of the District Collector.
