CANACONA
A tree which was leaning dangerously at the Galgibaga Primary school was finally cleared on Friday.
Those present to monitor the removal of the tree included officers from the deputy collector, Mamlatdar, Fire Brigade, Electricity, Police, Traffic Police and Janasena workers led by GPCC General Secretary Janardhan Bhandari.
It may be recalled that an elderly couple had complained that the large tree had uprooted during the cyclonic winds a month ago and had been leaning dangerously on a coconut tree, posing threat to electricity wires, a nearby compound and houses, besides a primary school building.
Locals had blamed fire personnel for not acting in time and the Taluka Disaster Management Authority for risking lives and property by not attending to the tree.
