CANACONA
Three unoccupied houses along the NH66 highway and barely a few metres from the Polem border check post were burgled for the second time in a year.
According to police, burglars broke open the doors at all three houses and ransacked the cupboards, but it was unclear what had been stolen from the houses.
“All three families live in the Gulf and it could not be immediately verified when the burglaries took place and what items were stolen,” said Canacona PSI Ramchandra Naik.
Police patrolling has been intensified in the area following the burglaries.
According to locals, the same three houses had been targeted by burglars about a year ago and some valuables had been stolen at that time.
Locals said the three families had returned to the Gulf only recently and it is unlikely that there were many valuables in the three burgled houses.
