A government secondary school in Sanvordem has been successful in manufacturing safe, natural and alcohol-free sanitizer. A test to check the effectiveness of this sanitizer was done, by mixing it in curds and keeping it for 24 hours. When checked the next day, the bacteria in the curds were found dead, thus proving that the sanitizer was effective. The experiment was done with the help of Devidas Kotkar, principal at Nagargao school who is also the former principal at Sanvordem school. Kotkar along with the assistant laboratory teacher Chandani Gaonkar, Tanvi Dhuri and other teachers did this experiment.
The aim of this experiment was to help children use safe, natural sanitizer once the school reopens. The ingredients used to make this sanitizer are neem, turmeric, kapoor and aloe vera, which are natural and safe.
Today, to stay safe from Covid-19, sanitizers are used all over the world however, the sanitizers available in the market contain a large amount of alcohol, which is harmful for the skin when used for a long time. As it is compulsory to use sanitizers while using public spaces, government offices, private establishments, supermarkets etc, too much alcohol-content in these sanitizers could cause harm to the skin.
Considering this aspect, the government school teachers in Sanvordem have initiated this step of experimenting with natural ingredients to make a safe hand sanitizer for long-term usage. This gesture is being appreciated by the locals who think that other schools will also get a boost to undertake such projects for safeguarding community health.
