Copyright case against directors of Fern Residency Calangute

The Calangute Police have registered a case of copyright infringement against directors and the general manager of The Fern Residency Calangute for unauthorised use of copyrighted songs. The complaint was filed by Suraj Kumar, an authorised representative of M/s Novex Communications Private Limited, based in Mumbai.According to the complaint, the accused, identified as Neena Mital (Director), Pramod Mital (Director), and Gautam Verma (General Manager), allegedly played songs and sound recordings owned by M/s Novex Communications during a public performance on the night of September 22, 2024, at The Fern Residency located on Baga Beach road, Calangute.

The songs were played without obtaining the necessary permissions or consent from the copyright holders, thereby violating provisions of the Copyright Act, 1957.

The Calangute Police have registered the offence under Sections 63 and 69 read with Section 51 of the Copyright Act, 1957, and Sections 318(3) and 3(5) of the BNS 2023.The case highlights the importance of adhering to copyright laws and obtaining necessary licenses for public performances. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the extent of the infringement and take appropriate legal action against the accused.

Driver dies in mishap at Dhavali

PONDA: A jeep driver died after the vehicle crashed into the protective wall of a drain at the junction near the underpass in Dhavali. According to information, the driver, Ashok Iragappa (50), a native of Karnataka but residing at Old Goa, lost control of the jeep while driving the jeep and crashed into the protective wall.
