Karapur-Sarvan ex-panch dies during walking pilgrimage to Shirdi

A 60-year-old former member of Karapur-Sarvan panchayat in Bicholim was killed in a road mishap along the Kolhapur-Satara highway while on a walking pilgrimage to Shirdi on Tuesday evening.

According to reports, Vishwas Sawant, who resided at Lalbag Vithalapur-Sakhali, was part of a 100-member group of Sai devotees from Shri Rashtroli Sai Baba Temple in Sangolda on a walking pilgrimage to the Sai Baba Temple in Shirdi and were to reach Shirdi on January 22.

The walking pilgrims had covered about 609 kms by foot when a truck knocked down Sawant and sped away.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital by other pilgrims, but was declared dead on arrival. The body is presently in a mortuary at a hospital in Kolhapur and investigations are in progress.

VASCO The Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights will hold a hearing of various issues of deprivation and violation of Child Rights on January 15 from 3 pm to 5 pm in the office of the Deputy Collector, Mormugao under the title ‘Justice at your Door Step’.The commission has invited people to take note of this event and to attend in large numbers with their grievances.
