Karwar native held for defrauding govt job aspirants of Rs 31 lakh

PANAJI

The Agassaim police arrested Johny D’costa alias Jass, a native of Karwar, for allegedly defrauding government job aspirants from Goa of Rs 31 lakh approx.

His arrest comes seven months after an FIR was registered against him and his female accomplice based on a complaint by Allan Silvera. The young job aspirant alleged that between January 1, 2022 and February 15, 2024, Jass and his accomplice promised government jobs in various departments in Goa in exchange for money. They allegedly convinced Silvera to spread the word, by way of which several other youths approached him for government jobs. The accused was paid a total of Rs 31 lakh approx from victims, however, no jobs were provided. The police are now on the lookout for the female accomplice and expecting more complaints against the accused persons.
