Prashant Marathe has been elected unopposed as sarpanch in the seven-member Nagargaon Panchayat in Sattari taluka.
The post had fallen vacant after Rama Kharwat had resigned, and the election was conducted on Wednesday to elect a new sarpanch.
Since Marathe was the only candidate to file a nomination, he was elected unopposed by the returning officer Prataprao Rane, extension officer at the Sattari BDO.
Marathe is the fourth panch after Parag Khadilkar, Lakshmi Harwalkar, Rama Kharwat to serve as sarpanch in the current tenure of the panchayat.
Later speaking to reporters, Marathe said the problem of drinking water would be resolved by setting up a new water project at Uste.
“Efforts will be made to develop all roads in Nagargaon Panchayat,” said Marathe, adding that he would serve as sarpanch till the next panchayat elections.
