Namdev Naik was elected unopposed as sarpanch of Santa Cruz at a special meeting held in the panchayat on Friday.
Election to the sarpanch was necessitated as the post had fallen vacant after former sarpanch Prasad Naik stepped down as part of the power-sharing agreement among the ruling panchas.
Out of the eleven panchas, only seven remained present for the meeting for which Deepali Prabhu was the presiding officer.
