MARGAO: Raia Sporting Club left the audience in awe as they outclassed the hosts A A De Majorda UC with a resounding 4-1 victory to earn a place in the quarter-finals of the 22nd Fr Basilio Andrade memorial tournament, on Monday.
The match opened with a dramatic turn of events when Raia capitalized on an AA De Majorda UC goalkeeper's mistake. The ball slipped through the keeper's hands, and Rivo Borges placed it into the back of the net.
Garrison Fernandes found himself in a one-on-one situation with the A.A. De Majorda U.C. goalkeeper after a precise pass from Sheehan Fernandes. However, the keeper displayed great skills to deny Garrison .
Rivo Borges added another goal to his name. Eldon Colaco's perfectly timed a through ball that allowed Borges to slot the ball past the oncoming goalkeeper, extending Raia's lead.
Garrison Fernandesreceived a superb pass from Jouston Barbosa to increase Raia's lead to 3. In the second half, Raia continued their dominance, increasing their lead to 4 through an outstanding display of skill by Garrison Fernandes, who maneuvered past a defender and found the back of the net.
A lone goal for AA De Majorda UC came from Ashley Rodrigues, but it was not enough to change the course of the match.
The man of the match award was presented to Michael Dias of Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda by former Salgaocar FC player Micky Rebello.
