NGO Udant with Sakshi Sharma, an MA student of Women’s Studies at Goa University conducted an awareness session on “Healthy Living with menstrual Hygiene and Wholesomeness” at ICAR-CCARI, Old Goa. The campaign is aimed at creating awareness on menstrual health and hygiene, eliminating the stigma, shame and guilt, which are often associated with menstruation.
The session started with an introduction about the stigma and taboo associated with menstruation that most women shy away from speaking on, leaving them to resort to unhygienic ways to handle their periods. They were made aware about the need to maintain hygiene through a video clip on menstrual health and hygiene and were given information by a small talk on how to deal with menstrual myths and misconceptions by Anita Pereira, President of Udant. The session was attended by over 50 women employees belonging to different backgrounds. They were each provided with a packet of sanitary pads and a snack and tea.
