The Department of Economics of Sant Sohirobanath Ambiye Govt College of Arts and Commerce, Virnoda-Pernem organised a series of talks for graduate and undergraduate students of the college on "Financial Literacy and Investment Planning" in the college. The resource person was Sachin Vasant Padhye, an investment trainer/consultant, teaching mutual funds and transactional details. Social activist Vikaramaditya Panshikar was also present for the talk. Padhye kicked off a "Saksharata Abhiyan" to get the young and Goans from all walks of life involved in index fund's investments. Padhye stressed on the point that students at their early age need to develop financial skills to help themselves to choose between different careers and education options and manage any discretionary funds they may have, whether from allowances or jobs.
He also suggested that, students should start investing in index funds as they are safer compared to other market securities.
Those involved in the event were Yogita Rao, Arjun Morajkar, Dr Roshan Upaskar and coordinator/assistant professors of commerce, Cherrie Joe and Stalky Pareira. The event was organised under the guidance of Principal Prof Filipe e Mello and head of economics department Dr Nirmala De Abreu. Vice-Principal Dr Lucy James also spoke at the event.
