Tanavade hailed for proactive stance on revocation of Indian passports issue

MARGAO
Environment Minister Aleixo Sequeira has welcomed the proactive stance taken by Rajya Sabha MP and BJP State President Sadanand Shet Tanavade, in bringing attention to a critical issue affecting numerous individuals in Goa.

He said the Regional Passport Office’s recent revocation of passports for over 70 people, following the renewal of their Indian passports post registering their births in Portugal, has raised concerns.

Saying that the revocation is grounded in considering birth registration in Portugal as the effective date of acquiring citizenship, Sequeira said Rajya Sabha MP Tanavade has urged the Minister of External Affairs to reconsider, emphasising the unwarranted nature of revoking Indian passports solely based on birth registration in Portugal.

He added: “This initiative holds particular significance for many of my constituents, especially those in my constituency who apply for Portuguese passports for better prospects but often face delays in the process.”
