MARGAO: UC Benaulim register a solitary goal win against Carmona SC to advance to the quarter-finals of the Cana Benaulim Panchayat Cup football tournament, on Thursday.
Joseburn Cardozo set up the only goal of the match in the 52nd minute, finding Keegan Fernandes with a pass that beat Carmona defender Stanford Fernandes. Joeburn then made no mistake to slot the ball home.
Carmona SC almost equalised in the first half through Dezwin Dias and Maven Gracias but were denied by some good saves from UC Benaulim goalkeeper Aaren Fernandes, who was named Man of the Match.
UC Benaulim also had their chances with Keegan Fernandes forcing another save from Aaren Fernandes in the second half. Shanon Furtado of Carmona SC nearly snatched a late equaliser but his shot went wide.
