Woman drowns in Parra

MAPUSA

A 75-year-old blind woman drowned in a well near her house at Aradi-Parra on Monday afternoon. According to reports, the deceased, Laxmi Korgaonkar, had gone to collect coconut leaves in the premises of her house and accidentally fell into a nearby well which had no protective wall.

Her cries for help were heard by neighbours who rushed to the site and one youth jumped into the well to rescue her.

A fire brigade led by Pramod Mahale reached the site and pulled her out. She was taken to the District Hospital in an unconscious state and was declared dead. Mapusa PSI Sunil Patil conducted the panchnama.

Farmer dies in Aldona

MAPUSAA 72-year-old farmer died after slipping from a bandh at Corjuem-Aldona on Monday evening. According to reports, the deceased Sakharam Nagvekar lost his balance and fell down. He died on the spot.A Mapusa police led by PSI Sunil Patil and Hawaldar Ricky Fernandes conducted the panchanam and later sent the body for an autopsy.
