Goa Livelihoods Forum conducted a rapid assessment to understand sustainable development goals by talking to the women of Goa to look at it from the gender lens as they are more rooted in development than men. Stating this, author Charudatta Panigrahi highlighted how media can play a pivotal role to create the enabling environment to develop a wide range of partnerships with the private sector, civil society and other development institutions for bringing new ideas, innovations, services and delivery mechanisms in Goa. Panigrahi was addressing a webinar organised by Goa Livelihoods Forum and The Global Goals to discuss sustainable development goals and Goa.
Along with Panigrahi the other speakers Anupam Saraf, Daulat Hawaldar also focussed on similar goals. Goa Livelihood Forum (GLF) advisor Dharmanand Vernekar stated that the forum is founded on the principle that the quality of life is essentially related to the pursuit of livelihood and that the pursuit of a livelihood of choice is more valuable for those who are at the bottom rung of the economic ladder.
Anupam Saraph said that the planet was meant for a limited population but as a result of the overshoot of industrialization and agriculture there is an exploitation of natural resources. Eventually, there is a collapse of sustainability.
