The Konkani and Marathi departments of Ganpat Parsekar College of Education, Harmal, in collaboration with the Directorate of Official Language, Government of Goa, organised a one-day workshop, 'Mass media: Technology and Employment opportunities' for the BA BEd students at Dnyanada Auditorium, Harmal.
Kishor Naik Gaonkar, Editor of Goan Varta Live, Pramod Acharya, Editor of Prudent Media, Paresh Prabhu, Editor of Navprabha, and Pandurang Gaonkar, Editor of Goan Varta, were the resource persons at the workshop that was split into four sessions. Udesh Natekar, Principal of the college, welcomed the gathering before Laxmikant Parsekar, Chairman of Harmal Panchakroshi Shikshan Mandal, shed light on the significance of media and journalists in society. He encouraged the students to look at journalism as a career option. Vaishali Parab, Head of the Konkani department, proposed the vote of thanks. Yuvratni Naik and Ana D'souza anchored the formal function.
The first session focussed on job opportunities in mass media and was conducted by Kishor Naik Gaonkar, who guided the students on how to improve their linguistic skills. He motivated the students to choose journalism as a profession, pointing out that there are lesser human resources available in media in Goa. Rahi Padloskar proposed the vote of thanks for the first session, while Shreya Morajkar anchored the session.
The second session conducted by Pramod Acharya shed light on the digitalisation of mass media. He guided the students on how to do reporting of various events using their mobile devices. He evoked the adventurous and uncertain life a journalist has. Gaurav Kinnarkar proposed the vote of thanks for the second session and anchored it. Paresh Prabhu guided the students about the skills which should be developed to be a journalist. Pallavi Ghadi proposed the vote of thanks for the third session and anchored it.
In the fourth session, Pandurang Gaonkar guided the students regarding the different jobs available in journalism as he detailed the summarisation of each job in print media. Khushboo Chari anchored the session and gave a vote of thanks.
