The NGO ‘Goa First’ on Monday submitted a memorandum to the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC), demanding that prime property taken back from the Dev Damodar Trust be sealed by the council.
The ‘Goa First’ made the demand after noticing that several cars belonging to officials of a corporate house were found parked in the premises, which were being protected by private security guards.
The NGO stated that though the land was taken back by the MMC, the private security guards were objecting to access to anyone other than company employees on prime land in the heart of Vasco.
According to Goa First convenor Parshuram Sonurlekar, the prime property leased out to Dev Damodar Trust was taken back after the 30-year lease had expired on December 16, 2017. “The government property was in the possession of the Mamlatdar after the lease had expired, but it is still in the illegal possession of the trust and cars of a company are seen parked at the site.”
“No person is allowed to park in the premises and if some one dares to do so, they threaten to take legal action and also claim that they are still paying rent to MMC. Since Vasco faces space constraint, locals should also be allowed to park in the area,” said Sonurlekar.
Meanwhile, social activist Peter Andrade said the collector’s order was not being followed by authorities and it amounted to contempt of court.
Andrade also demanded that any person illegally occupying the prime land be immediately evicted by MMC.
“The Mamlatdar has already taken symbolic possession of the land, but the property is still being used by another party with security guards and this is contempt of court for disobeying orders of the Collector.”
“Our request is that all should be allowed to park there or else, the MMC must seal the area or put up a board so that the confusion over the ownerships is closed. We have requested that any party using the property by trespassing the Govt land be evicted immediately,” said Andrade.
