‘Power’ of Madkaikar: Janita elected Old Goa sarpanch
In an anti-climax to the fiasco of the Se Old Goa Sarpanch’s election, Janita Madkaikar was elected unopposed as sarpanch with one panch from the Nilkant Bhomkar camp switching loyalty and joining the Madkaikar camp, thereby increasing their strength from five to six while reducing the opposition camp to three, in the nine-member panchayat.

OLD GOA r rAt the election which was taken up on Monday in the panchayat office, only six panchas “ Janita Madkaikar, Tulsidas Kavlekar, Vishwas Kuttikar, Archita Painginkar, Pradnya Fadte and Megasham Parvatkar remained present, while Nilkant Bhomkar, Namrata Bhomkar and Vishal Volvoikar were absent. rEOVP Anil Dhumaskar was the presiding officer and was assisted in the election process by secretary Shirish Tari. rSpeaking to The Goan after the election, Sarpanch Janita Madkaikar informed that her first priority would be to undertake development of the village. rWhen questioned what role the panchayat would take vis-Ã -vis the proposal by the government to set up waste treatment plant at Bainguinim, which was vehemently opposed by the earlier panchayats, she informed that first the panchas would visit the Saligao waste plant as advised by the rchief minister and later decide on the issue at the panchayat meeting.
In the battle for Betalbatim panchayat, counting of votes for ward 1 gave some anxious moments for both MLA Wilfred D’Sa and Mickky Pacheco’s supporters after both the camps were tied 3-3 in the 7-member Panchayat body.
