Adanis, one of the two big Corporate groups alongwith Jindals, targeted by civil society groups and political parties agitating to stop suspected coal transportation infra projects, has sought to deny involvement saying it handles a miniscule portion of MPT's coal volumes.
The company said on its official handle on micro-blogging site Twitter that it is responsible for only 10 per cent of the total volumes of coal handled at MPT and denied any interest in the road aind railway infra projects Goans are agitating against.
The tweet of the company, widely suspected to be leaning towards the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which holds power both at the Centre and in Goa, has termed the ongoing issue a "politically driven agenda with vested interest".
The series of tweets however did not address the future plans to treble coal volumes handled at MPT which the agitating groups are attributing the government's eagerness to push through the rail and road expansion projects despite the widespread opposition.
The #SaveMollem Campaign in fact contested Adani's claims that it has no interest in the projects.
In a statement, they cited official documents of the Union government's Sagarmala project to buttress its argument that the rail and road expansion projects are expressly intended to facilitate transportation of hugely enhanced volumes of coal.
