Collector, railways mum on pleas to stop work at Chandor, Davorlim rail crossings

MARGAO

Neither officials of the Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd nor the South Goa district Collector have deemed proper to reply to the representations and petitions filed by Goyant Kollso Naka and the Goencho Ekvott in the last two days to stop work at the Chandor and Davorlim level crossings.

While many were anticipating the district authorities and the railways to announce a decision on Saturday on the demand to stop work at the Chandor level crossing, no communiqué was received from the authorities till late Sunday evening.

South Goa district Collector, Ajit Roy had earlier this week issued NOC for the closure of the road to the Railways to lay the double track at the three level crossings at Nessai, Chandor and Davorlim.

While the Railways had bulldozed its way with the work at the Nessai level crossing based on the Collector’s order despite strong protests from anti-tracking doubling and coal transportation, the railways have now decided to lay the track at level crossing at Chandor Sunday midnight and at the Davorlim level crossing on November 9 between 00.00 hours and 05.00 hours.

Besides the host of organizations fighting against the projects, political parties such as the Congress and Goa Forward have opposed laying of the double track at the Chandor and Davorlim level crossing and have decided to join the protests at Chandor on Sunday night.
