A group of like-minded people who have come together under the banner of “Ek Pavl Ekcharachem” will organise a public meeting at Lohia Maidan, Margao on October 31 at 4 pm onwards to highlight various issues affecting Goans and to find a way forward.
Activist Rajan Ghate, a core committee member, informed that this is a group of civil society that has come together to bring about a peaceful, non-violent, fearless, unity of Goans against communal disharmony which is disturbing the day-to-day life of citizens.
“We have observed some people are attempting to disturb the communal harmony in the State by either breaking statues of Shivaji or making statements against religion and people from outside the State meddling in the affairs of Goa. A group of arrogant people are aiming to disturb the peace and harmony of Goa. We need to come together to bring peace in the State and restore harmony,” Ghate said. “There are some people who have come out with a slogan saying 'Hindu khatre mein he’ which only adds to the misunderstanding,” he added.
He further said the government’s antipathy to declare Mhadei as Tiger Reserve and their plans to make Goa a coal hub is another dangerous trend for the State.
Several social activists and like-minded people gathered at Bodgeshwar Temple, Mapusa to voice their concerns and urged the citizens of Goa to remain present at Lohia Maidan, Margao in large numbers.
Besides Ghate, Mariano Ferrao, Manoj Haldankar, Aishwarya Salgaocar, Wilber Ticlo, Francis Fernandes, Parvati Narvekar, Laxmi Chawan, Dnyaneshwar Kambli, Hemant Bhagat, Manoj Halankar, Ramkrishna Jalmi, Diego D'souza, Salman Khan, Jitesh Kamat and other prominent leaders were present for the meeting.
