Ex-Colvale panch dies in scooter collision with car

Former Colvale Panchayat member Michael Fernandes (55) died on the spot after his scooter collided with a car while crossing the national highway at the Colvale Char Rasta junction on Saturday evening.

The fatal accident occurred at around 6:00 pm on Saturday.

According to Colvale Police, Michael Fernandes was riding his scootertowards Colvale when he attempted to cross the national highway. During the crossing, his scooter collided with a car that was travelling from Colvale towards Dhargal.

Fernandes sustained grievous injuries in the impact and was immediately shifted to the District Hospital, Mapusa. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.

The body has been sent to Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim, for post-mortem examination. Police Inspector Sanjeet Kandolkar of Colvale Police Station is investigating the case.
