HC quashes stay on Bodgeshwar temple panel

PANAJI

The High Court of Bombay at Goa has quashed and set aside the Administrative Tribunal's order that had stayed the appointment/swearing-in of the newly elected committee of Shree Dev Bodgeshwar Devasthan, Mapusa.

The petition challenging the Tribunal's order was filed by the newly elected committee, represented by Advocate Abhijit Gosavi. The petitioners argued that the election process was conducted democratically and that an ex-parte order could not be passed to stay the appointment. The High Court upheld these arguments and quashed the Tribunal’s order.

The election for the Shree Dev Bodgeshwar Temple committee was held on February 9. Before this, on the evening of February 7, the temple administrators accepted a list submitted by the temple secretary, which included 1,416 voters, among whom were 254 newly inducted Mahajans. An order was subsequently issued allowing these new Mahajans to participate in the election, and the process was conducted accordingly.

On February 12, President Bhaidkar filed a petition in the High Court challenging the order issued by the Bardesh Devalaya administrators.
