Freedom fighter Shyamsundar Atchyut Prabhu, whose legacy is showcased at the Sinquerim-based Aguad Interactive Museum: Goa “ The Land, The Struggle, The People, was born on January 7, 1936 in Mapusa, Bardez. He was the son of Atchyut Prabhu. Prabhu joined the NGC as a member in 1954. In the same year on August 15, he participated in the Satyagraha agitation, under the leadership of the late Anthony D’Souza. At this event, he was arrested, taken to Panaji police station and detained for six months. However, following his detention, he was sentenced to six years’ imprisonment on April 15, 1955 and was shifted to Reis Magos jail. He was later released three years into his sentence, on January 7, 1958. All through his active years, he was closely associated with the likes of Chandrakant Kerkar, Libano D’Souza, Srikant Naik and Prafulla Priyolkar, among others.
