In a second jobs-for-cash fraud case registered in Bardez, a woman from Nadora has filed a complaint with the Colvale Police, alleging that her husband was cheated of Rs 4 lakh by a Vasco-based accused, Uma Patil, who had promised to secure him a government job.
The complaint, filed on Thursday, states that the accused took the money in August last year but neither fulfilled the job promise nor returned the borrowed amount.
The Nadora woman alleged that the fraud was part of a broader scam orchestrated by Patil, who has already been arrested in a similar case by the Vasco Police. The alleged accused Uma Patil was arrested on November 12, along with her son Shivam Patil, in connection with another jobs-for-cash scam in Vasco. She is currently being interrogated by the Vasco Police.
Following the Nadora woman's complaint, Colvale Police have sought the court's permission to take Patil into custody for investigation. “An application has been submitted to the court to bring Uma Patil into our custody, as her involvement in this case needs to be thoroughly investigated,” said Colvale Police Inspector.
The Nadora complainant approached the Colvale Police soon after learning of Patil’s arrest. According to the complaint, the alleged fraud took place in August 2022, but despite repeated assurances, neither the job was provided nor the money refunded.
Earlier, the first complaint of a similar scam in Bardez was registered at the Porvorim Police Station.
The jobs-for-cash scam has raised concerns about fraudulent schemes preying on people desperate for employment opportunities. Local authorities have urged citizens to exercise caution and report any suspicious activities related to job offers or monetary transactions.
Investigations are ongoing, with police determined to uncover the extent of Uma Patil's alleged fraudulent activities across Bardez and Vasco.
