MLA banks on Minister to withdraw letter cancelling MMC recruitment

MARGAO

Congresss-turned-BJP Margao MLA Digambar Kamat is banking on the Urban Development Minister Vishwajit Rane to withdraw the Urban Development department’s letter to the Margao Municipal Council cancelling the recruitment process initiated by the Margao Municipal Council to fill up the 43 posts in the Civic body.

Sources further said the Margao MLA is believed to reassured the two Councillors, whose siblings were promised the posts of Lower Divisional Clerks in the Civic body for supporting the BJP in the election for the MMC civic chief last year, that he would ensure that the promise is fulfilled by the government.

The Goan understands that the Margao MLA, who was caught off guard, after the Director of Urban Development, Gurudas Pilarnekar, issued directions to the Margao Municipal Chief Officer Gaurish Sankhwalkar to cancel the recruitment process as withdrawn, took up the matter with Urban Development Minister Vishwajit Rane and explained him the jurisdiction of a civic body on the question of recruitment of employees and workers.

If sources are to be believed, the Margao MLA has told his close aides that the Urban Development Minister has reportedly assured to study the matter before taking a decision.

Sources further informed that the BJP leadership has been informed that the very fate of the party ruled Margao Municipal Council could  hang in balance in the event the party does not honour the promise made to the two councillors to recruit their siblings as the LDCs.

“We have impressed upon the BJP leadership that the BJP may loose the MMC in the event 2-3 Councilors shift sides over the issue of recruitment of staff. It is now for the party leadership to take a call”, sources informed.

The Director of Urban Development had on Thursday issued a letter to the MMC Chief Officer to withdraw the recruitment process as cancelled in view of the note put up by the Urban Development Minister Vishwajit Rane that posts in all the  Municipal Councils should be filled up by the Urban Development or via the Staff Selection.
