Porvorim police arrested a notorious criminal from Loni Kalbhor, Pune, in connection with a highway robbery case in Porvorim.
According to Porvorim PI Rahul Parab, some unknown persons posing as police had stopped a vehicle and robbed cash of Rs 8 lakh on October 12.
During police investigation, police teams proceeded to Pune and Kalyan-Mumbai, where they carried out multiple raids.
During the raid, a vehicle used by the accused persons was seized from Ambivali-Thane and was brought to Goa.
One Porvorim police team had camped in the notorious Irani Basti of Pune and Ambivali, Thane and stayed among the locality and identified the accused persons. However, the accused had fled from their locality and the police team returned from the area and further kept track on the accused persons.
With the assistance of the Pune Crime Branch, one accused Mukhtar Sayyad Irani (34) of Loni Kalbhor, Pune was arrested on Friday and was brought to Goa. He has been remanded to four days of police custody.
Police said Irani has been previously involved in 18 cases across Maharashtra and Karnataka. Further investigation is in progress to nab the remaining accused and recover the stolen amount.
The investigation team is being supervised by North Goa SP Rahul Gupta IPS, and SDPO Vishwesh Karpe.
