OBCs up ante over quota in medical, PG, dental courses

PANAJI

As planned, leaders of Other Backward Communities, including the numerically significant Bhandari Samaj joined in to protest at the Azad Maidan on Sunday against the denial of reservations for admission to post-graduate courses in medicine and dentistry.

The leaders which included Girsh Chodankar of the Congress, Prof Ramrao Wagh of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Ashok Naik, the president of the Bhandari samaj, have decided to continue the stir at the taluka and village level across the State to create awareness on the issue.

Wagh said, the denial of reservation for the post-graduation courses was injustice and the result of neglect by the government and officials involved.

He said, the government had nearly a year to implement the quota after a High Court ruling in October last year but nothing was done.

"Now the government is verbally assuring our leaders who engaged with the government that reservation will be in place by next year," Wagh alleged, adding that OBC reservation for post-graduate medicine and dentistry courses is permitted by other States and also for the 50 per cent all-India quota.
