A public hearing for the expansion of Dabolim airport is scheduled on December 4 on a virtual platform.
Speaking to reporters, Environment Minister Nilesh Cabral said the public hearing for the expansion of Dabolim Airport was as per environment norms.
“The expansion of Dabolim airport is a promise by our former Chief Minister late Manohar Parrikar and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant that Dabolim Airport will continue to operate even if Mopa Airport begins operations.”
“This expansion programme is for a new terminal at a place where the old terminal was demolished. The public hearing on December 4 will be on a virtual format and we have already loaded the plans and presentation of the expansion on our website so as to clear public apprehension.”
“All public hearings will now have the same format and we will upload whatever plans are there on our website so that people are clear about the project well in advance. The State government is working towards Mopa Airport while continuing to operate Dabolim Airport,” said Cabral.
Airport Director Gagan Malik said Dabolim airport was growing with an increasing number of passengers.
“We need to expand the airport and the expansion is being carried out for a very small portion of 86 metres because we want to make internal changes in the terminal set up.”
“With increasing domestic passengers, we want our domestic security hold to a larger area and international section into a smaller area so that we are in a position to take care of our guests in a better fashion.”
“We have 62 check in counters and another 32 counters will be added to facilitate fast clearance of passengers. It is a simple expansion of the terminal building,” Malik added.
