PORVORIM
Reacting sharply to the arrest, assault and harassment of people and social activist Sheilendra Velingkar and other protesting against the IIT project at Melauli, Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte said the State is going through an undeclared emergency and appealed to Goans to unite against the autocratic behaviour of the government.
“A divided opposition has gived the BJP enough brown points to attack people through the police. This is just the beginning. This will continue if we keep quiet. It is time for all of us to safeguard the interest of Goa and Goans by acting proactively and not by sitting at home,” said Khante, while addressing a news conference in Porvorim.
Khaunte condemned the alleged assault on social activist Sheilendra Velingkar after he was takken into police custody.
“This assault is barbaric and illegal, indicating that high ranking officials are trying to treat Goans the way they handle the goons of Delhi, Bihar and UP.”
“The grievances of people through protests should be redressed by the government through dialogues,” said Khaunte.
