Three of the capital city's roads running perpendicular to the four major thoroughfare roads -- 18th June Road, MG Road, Dada Vaidya Road and Atmaram Borkar Road -- have been completed and opened to the public since Wednesday evening ahead of the Republic Day deadline.
According to Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL) managing director and CEO Sanjith Rodrigues, IAS, the teams of the contractors and of IPSCDL are working in tandem and round-the-clock to beat the sub-deadlines set for sector wise work as also the overall deadline of May 31 set by the government to finish all work.
While opening of these three roads -- Dr Wolfango de Silva Road (from EDC House to the T-junction at MG Road), Dr P Shivgaonkar Road (from Mahalaximi temple to the MG Road) and the Dr Roque Souza Road (alongside Jesuit House-Mr Baker from the MG Road to Church Square) -- will help somewhat ease the intra-city traffic chaos, the work being taken up on 18th June Road and later MG Road could add to the woes.
