Tourism Dept's Deepotsav event on hold this year

PANAJI

Tourism Department has announced withholding its annual Deepotsav event at Porvorim this year owing to the ongoing flyover works and consequent heavy vehicular traffic.

With this, one of the highlights of the event --  Srikrishna vijayotsav Competition -- has also been dropped.

"This year, due to ongoing infrastructure projects like fly over and associated challenges, the Department of Tourism regrets to announce to keep the Srikrishna Vijayotsav Competition on hold for Diwali 2024. The ongoing construction of the flyover in the vicinity, combined with the service road being occupied with heavy traffic, has led to a lack of a suitable and secure venue to conduct the event this time," reads a statement issued by the department.

The department further stated that despite joint efforts to find an alternate location, no feasible options were identified to host this significant celebration.

"We look forward to resuming the event in the coming year once the infrastructure projects are completed and better facilities are available," it said.
