The State government on Monday further amended the Goa Staff Selection Commission Act 2013, extending the deadline to fill up group C posts by January 31, 2024.
This is the third amendment to the Act. In October, the government had asked the Goa Staff Selection Commission (GSSC) to complete the requirements for group C posts by October 31. The government had earlier set the deadline of August 31 to complete the recruitment process.
The amendment has substituted the proviso to sub-section (8) of Section 7 of the Goa Staff Selection Commission Act, 2019, as follows:
“Provided that where advertisements for filling up of the subordinate services/posts were issued prior to January 8, 2022, the department concerned may conduct examination and complete the selection process to such subordinate services/posts not later than January 31, 2024".
Just before the State could go for polls in 2022, several departments had issued advertisements for subordinate posts before January 8, 2022. The government had started recruitments to fill around 10,000 vacancies during that period. However, with the election code of conduct coming into force, the recruitment process was halted.
The government is of the view that it would be a wasteful exercise to re-advertise the vacancies. Thus, it desired that the departments complete the halted recruitment process and fill up the vacancies as soon as possible.
