Won’t be part of decision that promotes extravaganza: Kamat

Boycotts meet on L-Day celebrations held at CM’s residence

PANAJI
Leader of the Opposition Digambar Kamat on Tuesday boycotted the meeting of the sub-committee constituted for the celebrations of the 60th year of Goa’s Liberation convened at Chief Minister’s official residence at Altinho in Panaji.

“Respecting the sentiments of freedom fighters and Goans, I will not be part of any decision which promotes extravaganza in Goa Liberation Day celebrations. I once again demand Chief Minister Pramod Sawant cancel the tender of the event management agency and involve Freedom Fighters Association, Goan artists and groups to organise the 60th Goa Liberation Day,” Kamat tweeted explaining his decision to stay away from the meeting.

Meanwhile, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Girish Chodankar on Tuesday charged that the BJP government headed by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant is making fortunes from the sacrifices of freedom fighters by fixing the tender of event management for Goa Liberation Day celebrations on December 19.

“Our CLP Leader Digambar Kamat today boycotted the sub-committee meeting convened at the official residence of the Chief Minister to approve the cultural programmes to be presented at Dayanand Bandodkar ground during the extravaganza planned by the BJP government spending crores of rupees,” informed Chodankar.

Congress has previously alleged that the tender is fixed in return of 40 per cent kickbacks. The tender already mentions entertainment programmes in the scope of the event management agency.

Congress pointed out that this is happening when the Freedom Fighters Association has advised the government to refrain from wasteful expenditure.
