Painting a grim picture of food production, Sadhguru Jagadish Vasudev said that by 2045-50, the world will be producing 40% less food thereby driving many nations towards famines.
“By 2050, we will be producing 40% less food, which will drive the nations towards famines. This year alone, seven nations are going towards famines. About 39 million people are already facing famine situation.
“The World Food Programme has said in next 3-4 months, at least 3.6 lakh children below 8 years will die starving as they do not have the money to provide them food,” he stated.
“The problem with us is that we are not evil but we are unconscious. Ignorance and unconsciousness combined with compulsive behaviour is far worse than evil itself. This is what the world is witnessing right now. This is why the Save Soil is significant,” Sadguru said.
Sadhguru however expressed happiness that the world is responding to the Save Soil campaign as 80 nations have signed up for the movement.
“Fortunately, the world has responded but the citizens must keep their voices up as the work is not over. It's just begun. In a democratic nation, if you want something to happen raise your voices,” he urged.
“People should stand up and voice their concern for the soil. Time to express long-term well-being of this nation, which means the well-being of the children. If we act now, within next 6 to 10 years we can make significant turnaround. We could be that generation which turned from the brink of disaster,” he opined.
The Save Soil movement aims at mandating nations to maintain 3-6% organic content in agricultural soils around the world. This is the minimum organic content required to keep soil fertile and capable of yield, and prevent it from turning into sand.
