MAPUSA
The Congress party has alleged a lack of fairness in the investigation into the land grab case involving accused Suleman Siddique Khan, citing the involvement of influential politicians and the BJP-led government’s control.
Addressing the media at the North Goa Congress District Office in Mapusa, Mapusa Block Congress President Shashank Narvekar claimed that former Mapusa MLA Francis D’Souza acted as the confirming party in a land sale linked to the accused. Narvekar expressed doubt about the investigation’s credibility under the BJP-led “double-engine government.”
“Without political involvement, such fraudulent activities would not happen. With the BJP in power at both the state and central levels, a fair investigation into land grab cases is impossible. The SIT’s role is limited to compiling information and tabling a report, which is a waste of time,” Narvekar alleged.
He also accused influential figures of usurping comunidade and private properties through fraudulent means, adding that while only one MLA has been named so far, there could be more involved.
Congress General Secretary Vijay Bhike questioned the sincerity of the Special Investigation Team (SIT), which was formed to protect Goa’s land but, according to him, has failed to deliver.
Former Chairperson of Mapusa Municipal Council Sudhir Kandolkar echoed the demand for accountability, calling for a CBI investigation into the matter.
