Over 1.63 lakh women have now been covered under the Goa health ministry's mass screening programme -- Swasth Mahila Swasth Goa -- and 70 positive cases of breast cancer were detected in the early stages.

Health Minister Vishwajit Rane shared the data on his social media handles.

“Through our mission of Swasth Mahila Swasth Goa we’ve screened 1.63L+ women, detecting 70 breast cancer cases early using the non-invasive iBreast device," Rane said in a post on micro-blogging site 'X', formerly Twitter.

Rane further said that through these screenings, over 3,300 suspect cases were flagged.

"Screening is key to early detection. I urge all to take health seriously and get screened," he added.

The breast screening program uses iBreast devices to screen women and has been on stream for over two years in the State.

Medical and para-medical staff attached to Goa's health centres are trained on breast cancer awareness, counseling and iBreast device handling.

'Suspected cases' from these screenings are referred to the district hospitals or the Goa Medical College and Hospital for advanced investigations and subsequent treatment.
