The All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) Goa unit organised a mega rally and felicitated veterans of the armed forces at a programme in Zuarinagar on Monday evening, in the presence of TMC Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien.
Hundreds of TMC workers and supporters marched through the area carrying the national flag and banners, before converging at the Dr Isodoro Carvalho Multipurpose Hall in Sancoale for a public event dedicated to honouring the sacrifices of Indian soldiers. Local veterans from the armed forces were felicitated during the programme.
Addressing the media, Goa TMC state convenor and former Cortalim Zilla Panchayat member Mariano Rodrigues clarified that the event was apolitical and organised purely to express gratitude towards the Indian armed forces.
Rodrigues added that the initiative was held in accordance with the directive of TMC Chairperson and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who called upon party workers across India to organise events thanking the armed forces.
“We want to thank the army, navy, air force and paramilitary forces for safeguarding the nation. They risk their lives daily so that we can live in peace,” Rodrigues stated.
Emphasising the emotional toll on the families of soldiers, he added, “They too have families—wives, children, and parents who live with constant worry. Yet, they serve the nation selflessly. The least we can do is express our gratitude through such public gestures.”
Rodrigues also acknowledged the support of locals from Zuarinagar, Velsao, Sancoale, Cansaulim, and surrounding areas who responded to his call and joined the rally in large numbers to show their solidarity.
The programme concluded with the felicitation of several veterans and a show of unity among the attendees, who stood in honour of the armed forces.
