The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) has begun surveying vulnerable areas of the capital to kick-start its annual pre-monsoon work.

The focus is on cleaning drains and clearing choke-points to prevent flooding during heavy rains.

Mayor Rohit Monserrate said the exercise was crucial ahead of the monsoon.

“We are identifying all critical spots. Our teams will ensure drains are cleaned and blockages removed before the monsoon sets in,” he said.

Officials confirmed that the survey covers low-lying areas, market zones, and residential pockets prone to waterlogging.

“We are mapping every vulnerable stretch. The work will be systematic and completed on time,” a senior official in the technical section said.

The CCP has also appealed to residents not to dump waste into drains.

“Public cooperation is essential. Even the best cleaning efforts fail if garbage keeps entering the system,” Monserrate added.

The Corporation plans to deploy additional manpower and machinery in the coming weeks and emergency response teams will be kept on standby once the rains begin.

With the monsoon expected to arrive in early June, the CCP survey marks the first step in a wider effort to keep Panaji safe from flooding and ensure smooth civic functioning through the season.
