Charter flights from Russia, Central Asia bring surge of tourists to Goa over year-end

PANAJI: As Goa witnessed a sudden surge in arrivals during the peak holiday season, the State also recorded the arrival of charter flights from Russia and Central Asia at Manohar International Airport in Mopa.

A Nordwind Airlines charter from Moscow arrived on December 30, carrying 360 passengers, followed by another Nordwind flight from Yekaterinburg on December 31 with 373 passengers.

Fly Arystan also operated a charter from Astana on December 30, bringing in 176 passengers, adding to the seasonal tourist inflow.

Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte said the steady flow of charter arrivals reflects increasing international confidence in Goa as a preferred holiday destination. “Strengthening air connectivity remains central to our vision of promoting quality tourism and ensuring a smooth, enriching experience for visitors,” he said.

Director of Tourism Kedar Naik added that charter operations play a key role in sustaining international arrivals. “The Department of Tourism is working closely with airlines, airport authorities, and tourism stakeholders to ensure seamless facilitation and to expand further Goa’s presence in both established and emerging global markets,” he said.
