CZMP maps unreadable, deny fair hearing: Activist

Social activist Anthony D’Silva makes a point on the draft CZMP plan at a media briefing.

Social activist Anthony D’Silva on Tuesday flagged the draft CZMP plan hearing initiated by the Salcete BDO, saying the maps sent to the panchayats are so miniature that a common man cannot make them out with the naked eye.
D’Silva appealed to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to intervene in the matter and give proper time for the people to file their suggestions and objections.
Addressing the media, D'Silva said people often charge activists with raising issues and coming on the roads with issues. “Here is one issue where people are not even given time to file their objections and suggestions. The maps made available at the panchayats are not visible to the naked eye. What are the people supposed to do in such circumstances?” he said.
D’Silva said the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority should send plans which are clearly visible to facilitate people to study and make suggestions and objections.
“I come from the fishing village of Ambelim. I am a fisherman first, then an activist. I was shocked to find the way this important exercise has been carried out by the authorities,” he said.
While making an appeal to the Chief Minister to intervene and sort out the issue, D’Silva warned that the people know how to protest and come on the roads. “The CM should listen to the voices of the people on the ground,” he said.
