A dedicated space will be provided for rickshaws and motorcycle pilots at the Valpoi KTC bus stand.
Officials from the Bicholim transport office visited Valpoi and inspected the site on Tuesday. They also held discussions with the chairperson and chief officer of the Valpoi Municipal Council (VMC) to gather detailed information on the matter.
For several decades, motorcycle pilots and rickshaw in Valpoi town have been rendering valuable public service. While their numbers have reduced considerably, the motorcycle pilots and rickshaw drivers continue to face several difficulties.
There is no proper shelter or designated place for them in Valpoi city, making it difficult to earn their livelihood.
To ensure they receive proper facilities, authorities have decided to create separate arrangements for them, and efforts are now underway to implement this decision.
Assistant Director of Transport (Bicholim) Sandeep Parodkar visited Valpoi and reviewed the overall conditions at the KTC bus stand, where arrangements will be made for them.
Speaking to media persons, Parodkar said motorcycle pilots and rickshaw drivers in Valpoi have been providing commendable service to the public.
“The government has decided to provide them with separate space along with essential facilities. Accordingly, this facility will be made available in Valpoi. With this designated space, the long-standing difficulties faced by them will finally be resolved,” said Parodkar.
During his visit, Parodkar held detailed discussions with VMC Chairperson Prasanna Gawas and Chief Officer Dhirendra Banawalikar.
He requested the municipal council to extend cooperation in overcoming any difficulties that may arise while providing the necessary facilities. He further expressed hope that the VMC would extend full support in implementing these facilities for the benefit of motorcycle pilots and rickshaw drivers in Valpoi.
