The two-day drive launched by the Ponda Police's traffic cell has netted nine motorbikes whose owners had fitted them with modified silencers causing noise pollution.

Personnel of the traffic cell had seized seven of these bikes on Wednesday and two more were netted on Thursday, Police Inspector Krishna Sinari said.

Due process is being followed with all the nine owners being reported to the court of the JMFC at Ponda, he said.

The offence of noise pollution due to modified silencers entails a fine of up to Rs 10,000 under the Motor Vehicles Act.

Sinari said once the owners appear before the court and pay the fine they will be directed to replace the silencers and their documents will be released only after they bring their bikes for inspection.

Police traffic cells in other jurisdictions also conducted similar drives and have reported cases against owners of dozens of two-wheelers across the State.
