AI poses new challenge for aspiring lawyers, warns South Collector

South Goa District Collector Egna Cleetus, IAS has said the future generation of lawyers will need to compete not just with fellow humans, but also with artificial intelligence.

Emphasising the importance of staying updated with the latest technology, the Collector said that artificial intelligence presents new challenges and future lawyers will need to adapt to compete effectively.

She was addressing the students of G R Kare College of Law, Margao after felicitating the meritorious students, who excelled and topped in the Goa University Law exams. Notably, the Margao-based law college secured both the top ranks. Franskina Gama excelled in the B A LLB programme, while Renuka Venkatesh Keny topped the LLB Degree programme of the Goa University held in April 2025.

Speaking further, the district Collector said that some litigants who do not have law background have now started to take assistance of ChatGPT to draft their petition and replies. She said that the future generation of lawyers will need to compete not just with fellow humans, but also with artificial intelligence.

Egna Cleetus also spoke about preparation for competitive exams, advising students to stay updated on current affairs to stay ahead. She encouraged them to be well-informed and vigilant about global developments.

On the occasion, the Parent Teacher Association of the law college also flagged off its activities for the academic year. The PTA said that it would focus on having programmes which would help the students to prepare for competitive exams.
